It’s a dog-eat-dog world out there, but Petco would rather team up.
This week, the pet retailer expanded its partnership with Rover, an online pet-care marketplace, to offer services like dog-walking and house-sitting right on Petco’s website.
- It’ll also introduce new pet parents to Petco's Vital Care, its annual wellness plan; Vital Care debuted in October 2020 and already has 130,000+ members.
Pick of the litter: Ever since going public (again) about a year ago, Petco has focused on getting in front of customers wherever they may be. Just last week, it announced its first-ever shop-in-shop pilot, partnering with Lowe’s to put its pet merch in 15 of the home-improvement company’s stores.
- Petco’s Chief Merchandising Officer Nick Konat told CNBC he anticipates the concept will appeal to “DIY-inclined millennials.”
Converting new pet parents into ones that keep coming back is core to Petco’s growth strategy, as repeat delivery, for example, grew almost 40% YoY in Q3.
“This is such a valuable source of recurring revenue, and our headlights show significant repeat delivery of headroom ahead,” CEO Ron Coughlin told analysts during Petco’s November earnings call.—KM
