Retail news that keeps industry pros in the know
Retail Brew delivers the latest retail industry news and insights surrounding marketing, DTC, and e-commerce to keep leaders and decision-makers up to date.
In June, the Black in Fashion Council asked the fashion industry to take its diversity and inclusion efforts off Instagram and into practice. This week, 38 companies are answering the call to address workplace racism with the Council’s guidance.
Who’s joining: A mix of brands including resellers (DePop and The RealReal), DTCs (Everlane and Glossier), luxury houses (Cartier and Tiffany), and mall regulars (Gap Inc.’s entire portfolio).
What’s next: Over a minimum of three years, brands that partner with the Council will...
- Identify strategies they can take to prioritize inclusivity.
- Release progress updates through a corporate equality index. The first will be published in June 2021.
Customers and employees have criticized brands and trade organizations, like the CFDA, for taking inadequate action against racism. So the Council’s independent perspective and emphasis on long-term improvement may instill the lasting changes several groups demand.
Looking ahead...the Council will release the next batch of brands participating sometime after Labor Day. Since peer pressure is retail’s biggest trend, it should be a longer list.
