Hello, and welcome back to another edition of your favorite weekly column: this week in weird retail news. As usual, retailers have been up to a lot of, well, odd things over the past couple of weeks, and we’ve compiled the…can we say best of the best?
First, a soup and smoothie company has come up with a really bizarre competition to help you secure those coveted Taylor Swift Eras tickets—and not just tickets, VIP TICKETS, no less. And a fast food chain has hired a kind of chef to help it chop, slice and dice its avocados: a robot called Autocado.
- A soup and smoothie company is giving out VIP Taylor Swift tour tickets if contestants can film themselves “strutting, walking, or dancing down” in a supermarket’s freezer aisle.
- Krispy Kreme is now selling a donut that looks like a big M&M and comes stuffed with M&M minis.
- Chipotle has hired an avocado-peeling robot named Autocado that will chop, slice, and peel avocados ready to be served.
Our loyal newsletters will recall a bit of news that we all wish were true but sadly isn’t…yet. We said Mattel is working on releasing a life-sized robot Barbie that can make conversation and even help users style outfits. Yeah…well, we also wish there was a real-life Barbie (and maybe Ken), but you know the Barbie movie is…a movie, right?
